Baza
This region is includes the plain of Baza, the
plain of Guadix and the Vega of Granada. The Altiplano
rises to 1,100 metres with a central plain of
green fertile valleys watered by the rivers Guadalquivir,
Guadaletin, Castril and Guardal. The town of Baza
is a Moorish market town with a central ancient
plaza and a cave quarter, a bull ring and an interesting
archaeological museum.

Guadix
Guadix stands on the banks of the Rio Guadix in
the middle of a fertile plain, surrounded by red
rocks and is famous for its cave dwellings. The
old town is still surrounded by the original walls
and many of the ancient buildings have been restored.
This area is also famous for esparto (grass) products
and cutlery. Nearby Purullena is renown for its
ceramic production and there are many road side
stalls selling all types of pottery.

Sierra Nevada West - Alpujarra
South from Granada, the mountains of the Sierra
Nevada rise breathtakingly and are snow capped
for most of the year offering alpine sports, the
slopes are 28 kilometres away, 40 minutes by bus
and a direct route by car, but here the route
stops and walkers can take a two to three hour
walk to the second highest peak in the range.
In the summer mountain biking, horse riding and
paragliding can be arranged.

Loja and the Poniente
This region lies west of Granada and was once
the old Moorish kingdom of "Al Andalus", the surrounding
countryside and villages are rich with a wealth
of historical legends, traditions and stories
of battle, remains of mosques, palaces and castles.

Lecrin Valley / Costa Tropical
The Moors travelling south from Granada fell in
love with this area with its rich soil, rushing
rivers and the mountains providing natural fortification
to the valley; it was named El Valle de Lecrin
(the Valley of Happiness). Rolling countryside
rich with olive, orange and lemon groves, almonds
and grape thrive against the backdrop of the snow
covered Sierra Nevada and to the south the Mediterranean

Granada City and the Vega
Granada city itself is not only a highlight of
the province but home of one of the most visited
and precious monuments of Spain - the Alhambra,
a Moorish palace and its gardens. Also preserved
are the old Moorish quarter of the Albaicin and
the gypsy quarter of Sacromonte. The Granada Vega
(fertile plains and meadows) is a protected agricultural
area, it extends from the west side of the city
and includes the entire Genil river basin.
